A dirty carpet gives your vehicle a shabby, worn down look. Although a quick vacuuming helps, it won’t remove old grime and stains. It’s not gonna make your carpet look its best.

Don’t expect miracles from household cleaning agents either. Those general cleaning products aren’t formulated to remove dirt and grime from car carpet. In fact, they might even cause irreversible damage to your carpets’ texture and color.

For optimal results and to get as close to that awesome “new look” as possible without the risk of discoloration, you want to use professional products and tools that are especially designed and formulated for car carpet cleaning.

We’ll show you how professional detailers make your carpet look its best and the products and tools they use.

We have listed two different methods to clean your car carpet depending on how dirty they are:

Here’s How To Clean Your Dirty Car Carpet In 6 Easy Steps

If your carpet has some age to it and it is really dusty, dirty and stained, you’ll have to put in a little more effort to revive it. The easiest and fastest way to do this is by using a power drill with a carpet brush head. Any kind of drill will do, corded or cordless. There’s a carpet brush attachment included with the car upholstery cleaner set.

Just follow these 6 simple steps:

Preparation

Things you might need to clean your car carpet

Step 1: Vacuum the car carpet:

  • If the carpet is removable, take it out
Go outside, hold it up and hit it hard on the backside with a carpet beater to remove as much dust and dirt as possible. Then vacuum it thoroughly with a powerful car vacuum.
  • If the carpet is not removable, start by vacuuming in all directions
Vacuum until you’ve removed most of the dust. It is essential to do this very thoroughly. This is very important, because the dirt that is left behind will turn into mud when mixed with the cleaning agent (the next step), making it less efficient. You will also be bringing the dirt that is left up to the surface, which might even make your carpet look dirtier than before.

Step 2: Dilute Fabric Clean with deionized water

Dilute Fabric Clean 20:1 or 8:1 in the included spray bottle with deionized water, depending on how dirty your carpets are.

Tap water will work too, but it contains minerals and chlorine that will break down and weaken the carpet cleaner, making it less effective. Also, deionized water leaves zero mineral residue on your car carpets.

Step 3: Spray the carpet with carpet cleaner dilution

Take the spray bottle with diluted Fabric Clean and mist the carpet until it is saturated. No need to get it soaking wet.

You want to work in manageable sections. Work one section at a time, and let them slightly overlap.

Step 4: Work the product in all directions using your power drill with brush attachment

Now that the carpet is saturated with carpet cleaning solution, work the product in all directions with your power tool with rotary brush attachment. Ensure that working areas overlap seamlessly.

Step 5: Remove the (dirty) cleaning agent from the carpet

Use clean microfiber towels to rub your carpet thoroughly in all directions until the towel stays clean.

Always work with fresh clean towels or you’ll be rubbing the dirt back in again. Depending on how dirty the carpet is you will need a lot of fresh towels. Don’t cut corners here, this part of the process will determine the end result.

If the result is not satisfactory, repeat the process but leave the cleaning agent to soak longer. Don’t let the product dry before you’ve finished the job.

Step 6: Allow your car carpet to dry

When the result is satisfactory, leave your clean removable carpet in the open air until they are completely dry.

If possible, leave your car windows open for ventilation until your fixed car carpet is dry.

Enjoy your fresh carpet! You can be proud of them!
